Retrofitting the Como Barracks, Italy

An old and abandoned barrracks retrofitted with the concept of an experiential addition to breathe life and rrender what is desolate useful to foster relations between refugees and residents in Como, Italy. The walk through the project takes one through spaces designed to mimic the journey of the refugees. This begins from the dark 2.5 meter basement depicting the harsh struggles refugees go through before entering Europe, following the red path which takes one through tight spaces, transparent glass boxes, maneuvering through tall columns and finally an open shared space at the end of the journey to potray the light at the end of the tunnel for these refugees.

An old and desolate project redesigned into an African Restaurant with four main areas: An indoor lounge and bar area, An open air Restaurant, An outdoor garden area, and a multipurpose indoor area which doubles as an event center for rental and an indoor seating area to increase seating capacity.

This design is a response to a peri urban community in Ghana, where market women and street vendors have invaded the vehicular roads and thus a creates a very accident prone situation in the daily lives of the people in the community. The design is inspired by the uncoordinated and free movement of the people and its fluid shape facilitates the typical market experience of a Ghanaian market
